Mimmy Cooper

Mimmy CooperMimmy started in the financial services business in 1976 as a computer programmer with John Hancock. She went on to run a business line for Interactive Data Corp. (IDC) before moving to the Boston Company and then PanAgora Asset Management in senior Client Services roles. In 1991 she moved to Independence Investments, where she ran the Client Service Department and ultimately served as Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board of Directors from 2000 to 2009. Mimmy completed her MBA at Boston College in 1983 and her Series 65 Investment Adviser License in 2009. She also completed a certification program in financial planning at Boston University in 2010. She serves on the Board of Directors of the New England chapter of the American Technion Society.

You might not know:

Besides being a mother, grandmother and a great chef of chicken soup, Mimmy has an adventurous side that has taken her zip-lining in Costa Rica, heli-hiking in the Canadian Rockies and snorkeling in the Virgin Islands.

 

Mark Lapman

Mark started in the financial services industry as a stock analyst in the Portfolio Management Department of John Hancock in 1979. He was a member of the team which started Independence Investments in 1982 and went on to manage marketing, fixed income and compliance. Ultimately, he served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board and the Investment Committee from 2000 to 2009. Mark received a Ph.D. in History from Harvard University in 1982 and holds a CFA designation from the CFA Institute. He is on the Board of Directors of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum and the Board of Directors and Investment Committee of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research.

You might not know:

One of Mark’s fondest parenting experiences involved breeding 25 zebra finches with his three children. He painstakingly built a new cage for the birds, but it was too large to get out of his basement and had to be dismantled. He certainly learned his lesson on good planning at an early stage!
